Lithotripsy

Lithotripsy or ESWL (extracorpeal shock wave lithotripsy) is scheduled through your physician and the operating room. They will inform you of the time to arrive at the admitting department.

PREP: Your physician will instruct you on the prep needed.

PURPOSE: Lithotripsy is a shockwave therapy used to treat kidney stones without invasive surgery.

WHAT TO EXPECT: You will be positioned on the Lithotripsy table. You will lay on your back. Anesthesia will be administered. Once your kidney stone has been localized under Fluoroscopic guidance, a series of shock waves will be given to break up the stone.

TIME FRAME: 1 - 2 hours plus recovery time.
