Neurological conditions include disease processes or conditions involving the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), or the peripheral nervous system. Neurological events can be life changing, and often therapy is vital to the recovery process.
The Human Performance Center offers outpatient therapy for a variety of neurological conditions including, but not limited to:
- Head injury
- Brain Tumor
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinson's Disease
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Guillian Barre
- Bell's Palsy
- Vestibular Disorders
The purpose of therapy is to restore function, increase safety, and to maintain or promote a return to independence. Treatment is customized to meet the needs of the individual, and may include mobility training (ability to transfer, stand, and walk), motor re-education and progressive strengthening, balance training, fall prevention strategies, and endurance and functional training.
Equipment is available to address and challenge any level of ability. If orthotic (bracing) management is needed, therapists work closely with the orthotists at Great Plains Rehabilitation Services to determine what type of bracing is needed, and provide training for use of the brace. Therapists will also evaluate and make recommendations for assistive devices as needed, to promote increased safety and independence.
