Helping You Quit Smoking
Freedom From Smoking® is a smoking cessation class offered at St. Alexius Medical Center. The American Lung Association designed the Freedom From Smoking program for people who wanted to quit smoking but needed help.
This program incorporates many well-known techniques, tools, and tips that have been developed over several decades. The program includes seven sessions in a six-week time frame. The program assists the participant with behavior modification, nicotine addiction, as well as maintenance techniques such as weight management, stress relief, and choosing an overall healthy lifestyle.
The program’s seven sessions include:
- Orientation - making the decision and commitment to the class
- Habits and your motivation to quit
- Plan of action (including nicotine replacement therapy)
- Quit night
- 48-hour report (extra support for staying smoke free)
- Maintenance techniques
- Staying quit (making a plan of action to stay smoke free)
A Team Approach
The program is facilitated by a registered respiratory therapist/Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist who has been specially trained in the program. Many of the participants have experienced great success.
The Time is Now
Are you thinking about quitting? Almost anyone can stop smoking, but staying off is the difficult part. Maintenance strategies are an integral part of Freedom from Smoking®. The program offers individuals a step-by-step plan for quitting smoking. During the sessions, different techniques are introduced that makes quitting a less stressful experience and offers a systematic approach to quitting.
