St. Alexius’ Hintz Receives National Award for Superior Care of Women and Newborns

St. Alexius Medical Center’s Donna Hintz, BA, RN, CLC, clinical nurse educator for The Birth Place, has been recognized for her involvement with fetal heart monitoring.  Hintz is one of five recipients awarded by The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) with the Fetal Heart Monitoring Instructor Recognition Award.  She is the only professional in North Dakota to receive the award.

Since 2006, Hintz has been a fetal heart monitoring course administrator and instructor at St. Alexius.  She works as a staff nurse and also teaches breastfeeding classes.

The AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring Program provides fetal heart monitoring education to about 13,000 perinatal clinicians each year worldwide.  The goal of the program is to strengthen the ability of nurses to accurately interpret fetal heart rate activity monitoring, which helps newborns with the best possible start in life.
