Dr. Nicholas Neumann Receives Benedictine Spirit Award

St. Alexius Medical Center awarded Nicholas Neumann, MD, the Benedictine Spirit Award during the 2013 Doctor’s Day celebration. He was awarded the Benedictine Spirit Award in recognition of his efforts to provide distinguished service to his patients and upholding the mission and values outlined by the Sisters of St. Benedict of Annunciation Monastery.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Neumann has contributed to the growth and well-being of St. Alexius Medical Center.  In 1980, Dr. Neumann began his career in pulmonology and critical care medicine at the Heart & Lung Clinic.  He remained with the clinic until 2008.  From 1986 to 1999, Dr. Neumann chaired St. Alexius’ Ethics Committee.  In 1994 he was named St. Alexius’ director medical affairs, a position he held until 1999.

In 1999, Dr. Neumann was named associate dean and director of medical education at The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences’ Southwest Campus.  A professor of internal medicine at the school, Dr. Neumann has an innate ability to mentor, lead, direct and encourage medical students to succeed in the medical profession.  This fact is demonstrated by him being a twice-recipient of the Southwest Campus Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award (1986 and 1992).  A passion for education, he is a member on the executive operations committee of the Harold Schafer Leadership Center Emerging Leaders Program at University of Mary.
