Christmas Caps for Newborns at St. Alexius

It's a special delivery for the most precious gifts at one local hospital. Newborns at St. Alexius are "decking the halls" in their cute Santa hats. Babies born here all get caps knitted by volunteers but during the month of December all newborns are given red and white Christmas caps. Volunteer Sue Lacher says it is so rewarding to see the babies leave for home in their knitted gifts.  It takes volunteers about three hours to make a newborn cap, volunteers knit about 120 hats a month.

(Sue Lacher, St. Alexius Volunteer knitter):  "When you think about Christmas, it all started with a baby. So what better a gift at Christmas than a baby and we have to jazz them up a little bit, make them look Christmassy. So we got the idea of making little Santa Hats for the babies at St. Alexius and the babies look so cute in them.”

(Anchor):  If you like to knit, St. Alexius is always looking for more volunteers. You can call 530-7159 for more information.
