CHI St. Alexius Health has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. CHI St. Alexius is raising funds to help advance the region’s kidney and prostate cancer care. Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Our region’s healthcare necessities are ever evolving, and you never know when you or a loved one will need the healthcare services at CHI St. Alexius Health Bismarck. Donations from #GivingTuesday will help acquire a Siemens Magnetom Aera Body Coil for CHI St. Alexius Health’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
At CHI St. Alexius Health, we see approximately 48 patients per month who have prostate cancer and approximately 6 patients per month who have kidney cancer. With the MRI Body Coil upgrade, CHI St. Alexius Health will produce the highest quality images of the prostate and kidneys in western ND while also improving imaging of other abdominal organs such as the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and spleen. MRI is one of the most advanced imaging modalities currently available as it is noninvasive and allows superb visualization of internal organs, soft tissues and bone. Unlike X-ray and CT, MRI is able to provide images without the risk of radiation, and is a preferred imaging modality for cancer detection and treatment.
The MRI Body Coil upgrade will vastly improve the region’s healthcare by detecting prostate and kidney cancers at earlier stages, and by allowing prostate and kidney cancer patients to remain close to home during their treatment plans. Kilee Harmon, Foundation Director, stated, “We are incredibly inspired by our generous donors each day. Giving Tuesday is a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen our community and help advance the region’s kidney and prostate cancer treatments.”
