Be A Good Sport….Get Your Sports Physical

As children return back to school, it’s important for parents to understand the importance of a back to school physical, particularly for athletes. Most student athletes must have a yearly physical exam to participate in sports sponsored by the North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA). Yearly exams aid in early detection of potentially threatening medical conditions.

A sports physical usually is performed by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. It includes an assessment of height, weight, blood pressure, vision and vaccination status, a health history questionnaire, a physical exam and brief questioning about certain high-risk behaviors. The medical provider then decides if the student athlete needs any special accommodations or restrictions on activity. If there are no concerns, the athlete is cleared for full participation.

St. Alexius Mandan Clinic - North and St. Alexius Medical Clinic in Minot are offering comprehensive sports physicals for high school athletes as mandated by the North Dakota High School Activities Association.
