Be A Good Sport….Get Your Sports Physical

As children return back to school, it’s important for parents to understand the importance of a sports physical. Student athletes must have a yearly physical exam to participate in sports sponsored by the North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA). It is important for athletes to receive a sports physical to ensure they are healthy enough to participate and help reduce the risk of an injury.

A sports physical usually is performed by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. It includes an assessment of height, weight, blood pressure, vision and vaccination status, a health history questionnaire, a physical exam and brief questioning about certain high-risk behaviors. The medical provider then decides if the student athlete needs any special accommodations or restrictions on activity. If there are no concerns, the athlete is cleared for full participation.

CHI St. Alexius Health Medical Plaza - Mandan and CHI St. Alexius Health Medical Plaza - Minot are offering comprehensive sports physicals for high school athletes as mandated by the North Dakota High School Activities Association.
